The Straw Bale Cabin and the Straw Bale Cottage are situated at Village Farm, Brind, near Howden, in the south west corner of East Yorkshire.

By Train

The easiest and most environmentally friendly way to arrive is by train. Howden railway station is only 1 mile from Village Farm. Over 30 trains a day stop at this quiet, local station making it easily accessible from anywhere in the UK.


Hull Trains (01482 606388 or www.hulltrains.co.uk ) Daily service to/from London Kings Cross stops at Howden several times a day. There are often special offers for advanced booking. For example a London to Howden return ticket can be purchased for £30 when booked 8 weeks prior to travel.

There are also regular local trains from Hull, York, Doncaster and Leeds.


It is a mile from the station to the cottage. The first half mile is a B road and the last half mile a single track country lane.

and www.thetrainline.com is a useful website for searching for ticket offers. Sometimes it may be cheaper to buy tickets to Hull or York and alight early at Howden.


By Bus

The nearest bus stops are Howden (3 miles) or Bubwith.


By Car


The Straw Bale Cabin and the Straw Bale Cottage are approximately 5 miles from Junction 37 of the M62. There is ample off road parking at Village Farm.

Leave the M62 at Junction 37. At the spur roundabout, go right on A614 towards Howden. Go straight over a mini roundabout (Nissan/Renault garage on right). Go past garden centre on right. At next roundabout take first left (Hull road). Follow that round to Cross Keys where it bears right onto Flatgate. Go past school (on right) then turn right onto Station Road (B1228 to York). Keep straight on to North Howden railway crossing (couple of miles). About ½ mile after the crossing, on a slight bend, turn left (sign posted Brind) onto a single track lane. Village Farm is about ½ mile down here, on right hand side (next to telephone box).
